Craig Hella Johnson's oratorio travels from the USA to the Esplanade Recital Studio, performed by Singapore singers under artistic director Choy Siew Woon and stage director Seong Hui Xuan. The piece was written in response to the real-life events surrounding Matthew Shepard, and it is a thoroughly 21st-century thing: classical choral writing set alongside musical theatre, opera, spoken word, pop, blues and country, refusing to settle into any one of them.
