A pigeon-loft installation at Esplanade Concourse asks what camouflage and misdirection can do for queer and marginalised lives — free, till 3 Jan 2027.
The Loft Pavilion takes over the Esplanade Concourse with a Singapore-made installation built around the loft — the structure where pigeons for racing and breed shows are kept, bred and trained. Rock doves appear throughout as a metaphor, while the project works through visibility and counter-surveillance: the links between bodies, objects and daily life, and who gets to watch whom. It brings in perspectives on queerness and marginalised experience in hostile environments, framing camouflage and deliberate misdirection not as disclosure but as methods of survival. The project began in 2020 under the title Boor-Koo and has been reworked into the piece showing here.
It costs nothing, which makes it an easy add-on to whatever else has you at the Esplanade. The run is a long one — 17 Jul 2026 to 3 Jan 2027, open 9am to 11.30pm — so it fits a lunch break, a slow weekday evening or a full weekend loop. Go for the art, stay for however long the rock doves keep you looking.
