Young dancers from Apsaras Arts Academy trace bharatanatyam from the South Indian temple sanctum to the screen at Esplanade Concourse.
Bharatanatyam did not arrive on stage fully formed. Yatra – From Sanctum to Screen follows the route it took — from Sadir as practised in South Indian temples, through sacred and royal settings, into the gurukulam and finally the stage, and now onto screens. Young dancers from Apsaras Arts Academy perform the production, which keeps one eye on how the form has changed and the other on the classical base it has held on to.
It runs 30 minutes at Esplanade Concourse on Sunday 29 Nov 2026, starting at 12pm — a short, early-afternoon slot that leaves the rest of your Sunday intact. The dancers are Singapore-based, drawn from the academy's younger cohort, and admission is free. Thirty minutes, no ticket, and a classical dance form laid out from its origins to its screen life.
