Academic Lecture: Modern and Contemporary Ink 学术讲座：现代水墨和当代水墨

Two hours on a Sunday afternoon at Prestige Gallery, 2pm to 4pm, devoted to the last century of Chinese ink painting — and it costs nothing. The lecture is given by 魏祥奇, who holds a doctorate in art history and theory, and moderated by 张鹤馨, a gallery owner. The subject is the shift from tradition to modernity across the 20th century, traced through three waves of change.

The first wave arrives with the New Culture Movement, when artists took up subjects from contemporary life and brought in realist approaches to depicting form. From the start of the 21st century, ink art has grown more varied in visual language, concepts, meanings and reach. Free entry, and a speaker with the academic grounding to lay the whole arc out clearly.
