Lahu and Naxi heritage songs from Yunnan, Malay traditional music and contemporary flute, together on the Esplanade Theatre stage for one Tuesday night.
Five musicians from three places share one stage at the Esplanade Theatre: Kins Lin from Taiwan, Wang Niejing and Jinjia Jinsong carrying Lahu and Naxi heritage music from Yunnan, Kamrul Hussin from Malaysia with traditional Malay music, and Hua Pei from Taiwan on contemporary flute. Singapore's Ng Kang Kee holds it together as music director and composer, which means the thread running through the evening is his. Heritage material from two Yunnan communities sits alongside Malay tradition and a contemporary flute voice — four distinct wells drawn in a single sitting.
