A Paper Club discussion weighing AI's sustainability uses against its own water and energy bill β Thu 22 Oct, free.
AI is increasingly pitched as a tool for sustainability, from energy efficiency to climate-risk modelling β but building and running it has an environmental cost of its own. This Paper Club session sits with both sides of that ledger in one room, and it is set up as a discussion rather than a seminar, so the talking is the point. Come with an opinion and be prepared to compare it with everyone else's.
Three papers are suggested as pre-reading: a main one on AI's climate, environmental and sustainability implications, a secondary one on AI's water consumption, and an older paper on the water footprint of data centres. Reading ahead means the session can go straight into questioning and comparing views, and you are welcome to bring your own research, work experience or material you have found online into the conversation. It runs 6.30β8pm on Thursday 22 Oct 2026 at Lorong AI @ One-North, and entry is free.
