Jazz harmony and improvisation reworked inside Indian music structures, played by Singapore musicians at Esplanade Concourse — free, Sun 22 Nov.
Jazz harmony, rhythm and improvisation, placed inside Indian music structures — that's the proposition at Confluence: Indian Classical x Jazz. The musicians are from Singapore, and the questions on the table are as much about playing as listening: how jazz methods sit on Indian instruments, and how the two approaches change the way each is heard. It draws on a long history of contact between Indian music and other traditions, so there's more going on here than a quick genre mash-up.
It happens at Esplanade Concourse on Sunday 22 November, listed for 7.15pm with a running time of 30 minutes, and entry is free. Half an hour, no ticket to sort out, and the rest of your Sunday evening still yours.
