Poets compose on the spot against a countdown timer, writing off shipwreck ceramics at ACM β€” and the audience gets a turn too.

The Asian Civilisations Museum's ceramics collection includes ancient pottery and clay fragments recovered from shipwrecks on the sea floor, and for one hour a panel of poets writes poems in response to those objects, on the spot, with a countdown timer running the whole exercise. The programme picks at how excavated clay carries stories of trade, loss and survival. It is presented by Singapore Writers Festival 2026. This one is for anyone who has ever stood in front of a museum case and felt there was a story in there.

It runs Sat 14 Nov 2026, 2pm to 3pm, at the Asian Civilisations Museum, and entry is free. You are not just watching: audience members can write and share poetry of their own during the session. One hour, no ticket price, and a room full of people making something new out of very old clay.
