Wu Yanrong's A School of Fireworks brings spare, calligraphic works to the Esplanade's Level 3 Community Wall — free, from 4 Sep.
A School of Fireworks is the work of Singapore's Wu Yanrong, an artist who came up through Chinese calligraphy and graphic design, and both show in how little she needs. Her practice strips objects down to essentials with a few deliberate gestures, and the resulting compositions are built around space, form and texture rather than detail. What she is after is the tension between structure and spontaneity — the controlled mark and the loose one sharing a frame.
The exhibition sits on the Community Wall at Esplanade Mall Level 3, at 1 Esplanade Drive, and admission is free. It runs a long stretch, from Fri 4 Sep 2026 through to Sun 31 Jan 2027, so there is no scramble to catch it in a single weekend — plenty of time to look twice at a wall you might otherwise walk straight past.
