You've done the dinner-and-a-movie thing so many times you can predict the popcorn budget. Time to shake it up. Whether you're two weeks in or two years deep, we've found eight ways to actually connect — some sweaty, some artsy, some just plain weird (in a good way).

Hedonist Boudoir Photography — If you're both feeling brave (and a little cheeky), book a private boudoir session at a cosy home studio with hall, bedroom and kitchen settings. It's S$475–895, and the location gets revealed after you confirm. Dates run through Dec 2026 — perfect for anniversaries or saying 'I still fancy you' without saying it.

SINGAPORAMA by Navin Rawanchaikul — Artist Navin Rawanchaikul takes over National Gallery Singapore from Jan to Nov 2026 with SINGAPORAMA, a long, layered look at Singapore through art. It's free for Singaporeans and PRs, and a solid post-dinner wander that sparks actual conversation.

Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath — Splurge on a date at ArtScience Museum's world-premiere ocean exhibition, blending OceanX footage with art and science. Daily 10am–7pm (last entry 6pm), S$16.50–22. Come for the manta rays, stay for the 'wow, we're plankton' feels.

Full Moon Ceremony ~ Cacao, Innerdance, Gong — This is not your usual date night. At The Ark, a full moon ceremony combines cacao, Innerdance, and gongs for a sacred evening — S$77 a head. Expect to feel things, maybe a lot. Afterwards, you'll either float out hand-in-hand or have a LOT to talk about.

Tampines Bazaar 2026 — For a free-ish, heartland date, head to the month-long pasar malam beside Tampines MRT (30 Aug–28 Sep). 70+ vendors, squishies, live music, late-night snacks. It's festive, unpretentious, and you can people-watch while sharing a giant squid-on-a-stick.

Karaoke session: 01 (Jurong Green CC) — If you two love a duet, Jurong Green CC's monthly karaoke session on 31 Aug, 1pm at #03-03 is your stage. It's a community thing, so no fancy booths — just you, the mic, and maybe an auntie who knows all the words to 'Moonlight Sonata' better than you.

Kebun Baru CC MAEC P. RAMLEE CLUB KARAOKE SESSION — For classics lovers, Kebun Baru CC's P. Ramlee karaoke session on 31 Aug, 5pm at Level 3 P. Ramlee Room is where it's at. Sing 'Azizah' badly together, make new friends, and definitely chope the tambourine.

[Limbang - SMV] 753 Karaoke (3 Nite) — End the Monday on a high note at Block 753 Choa Chu Kang North 5, 6pm, hosted by Stagmont View. Three nights of karaoke for the price of... free? Just show up and sing, lah. It's the kind of no-frills, heartland fun that makes for the best stories.

So next time someone says 'dinner and movie?', you can reply 'how about a full moon gong ceremony instead?' Watch their face. That's the spirit.
